A minty boy nursery {mint, teal, black and white}

I have always loved designing nurseries and kids spaces using colors that are slightly out of the ordinary.  I tend to use colors as a "neutral" even though they aren't your classic neutral like white, tan, ivory etc.  For my most recent client she already had her walls painted in Sherwin Williams Mint Condition from this room originally being her daughters.  They didn't want to repaint, but are having a boy this summer.  No problem.  I looked at the walls as their neutral backdrop and allowed the rest of the color scheme to come from my inspiration piece I found.  I just adore this saying and thought the colors were fab.

The rest of the room will be compiled of teal, black, white and a few shades of gray.  Along with little bits of an olivey green.  Love those unexpected touches.

Mobiles

I have seen many rooms lately on sites such as Project Nursery and Apartment Therapy where the 'mobile' isn't placed over the crib.  Have you seen this? It was funny for me to read some of the comments people have left after a few of the rooms you'll see below, asking why the mobile wasn't over the crib. It seems that the idea of the mobile has changed from strictly a visual stimulation for the baby to a statement piece.  I have never been the mobile kind of mom.  My main reason was when my son was born almost 5 years ago, cute mobiles were unheard of.  I wasn't into the animals, trains, or bug type options.  Etsy wasn't a phenomenon yet.  But we all know now that mobiles can be gorgeous or really striking.  And with that being said, that is why you see so many not actually hanging over the crib anymore.  I'm sure there are many other reasons involved too...they pose a hazard once your little one can sit up or stand.  So if you place it somewhere other then over the crib, it can stay in the room forever.  Here are a few great rooms where the mobile is still visible from the crib, but is no longer attached to the crib itself.

Have fun with your mobile. Make it a statement piece, bold, colorful or soft and whimsical, either way have fun with it.  They really are fun to look at. (not just for your baby)

Spinning round and round

The mobile...some people love them, others don't, some mobiles are eye sores others are eye candy.  You really have to search to find the mobile that fits you and your theme.  It's worth all the searching because they are a great addition to any room and are truly loved by your baby.  With the wonderful world of Etsy, it is so much easier to find an adorable mobile. From modern to traditional...it's out there.

I have always been a fan of the the Bla Bla company. Their dolls are amazing and can also be a great addition to a room, but their new adventure in mobiles over the last few years has really brought a new look in a nursery.  The contrast of the hard surface of the furniture, textures in the bedding and then the knit of their products always adds such interest to any room.
