Nautical Nursery {room tour}

This nursery has been so much fun to work on.  I have known the soon-to-be mommy for years and this is her first baby.  She wanted a super special nursery for her little guy, but just wasn't in love with the room that would be his nursery.  They currently rent the most unique beach cottage that is just full of character.  Some times "character" can be seen as a hindrance, but I was excited to make it a special piece of this nursery.  Here are a few before shots of the space so you see what I was working with:

The walls were covered in two different types of wood going in two different directions with a back wall with a very useless wall cubby.  It was time to get to work and make this space special.
My design board for her looked like this:
As with all designs...things change slightly and usually for the better, so you'll see a few tweaks that were made in the final room.

Now for the room, get ready for photos overload.

I hope you have enjoyed this little tour.  The best part about this nursery design for me is that the mommy now says this is her favorite room in her house.  That she loves the originally wood walls and even that ceiling.  All the character that was initially viewed as unattractive, is now serving a design purpose and I just adore it.  I can't wait to meet this little guy in a few short weeks!

Nautical nursery {gallery wall}

I've started the install for one of my client's nurseries and thought I'd share a little sneak peak with you all.  I shared the design board for this room the other day here.

I thought it would be fun to show you how the gallery wall has come together over the changing dresser.
This room is so fun because it has thick white washed boards on the walls with knots and character galore.  They have added such an amazing element to the space.  I hope this gallery wall shows you how much fun and interest mixing frames can be in a gallery wall.  Don't be afraid to buy a bunch of frames, bring them home and mock-up your gallery wall on the floor.  That is what we did until we found just the right combination, then I just returned the unused frames.  It eliminates the stress at the store for those of you that may feel overwhelmed with an abundance of options.

Can't wait to share the rest of the room with you all.  Just waiting for a few items and then it will be complete.

Outer Space Nursery {navy, olive and orange}

I haven't designed a design board for fun in sooo long. I thought it was time to do it. And I've been creating so many little girl nurseries that I thought it was time to do a board for a little boy.  I'm kind of into navy at the moment.  It is such a strong, rich color, but can be mixed with so many other color options.  How about olive and orange??  I'm sure if I just said that without showing you you may think...um, yuck!  You'd be surprised how well these colors work together.  Keeping the furniture colors neutral by using a white and wood crib and dresser allows for the accessories to stand out.  A navy patterned rug grounds the space.  It isn't the largest rug, so layering it on a nice, fluffy flokati rug would be just great.

Coral and Navy...yummy

1,  2,  3,  4 56,  7,  8,  9,  10,  11, 12

I absolutely love the color combination of coral and navy...if I wouldn't be looked at as crazy by my husband for changing the kids room again, I'd probably choose this color scheme.  It is so fun and eye catching.  It is especially great for shared spaces with a boy and girl, like my kids room. You can pull in super girlie items in both colors and really play up the navy in bold geometric patterns for the boy.  Do you love it as much as I do?

I, again, used a lot of Posh Tots items cause this is the last and final board I've added to their contest on Olioboard.  I'm excited to see what 25 boards they choose tomorrow.  There are so many fun designs that have been posted.

Happy Sunday everyone, back to the work week tomorrow!
